What is TMS?TMS is a non-invasive procedure that uses pulsating magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in select brain areas to improve depression symptoms, OCD, and other neuropsychiatric conditions.

Who is eligible for TMS?TMS is approved for the treatment of OCD and Depression in patients who have failed 2 or more medications. Failure includes side effects that are deemed unacceptable by the patient. It is an alternative therapy cleared for the treatment of many neurological disorders, including Alzheimers, Parkinson’s and Migraines.

How effective is the TMS treatment?TMS treatment is highly effective. Studies show that about 80% of patients respond positively to TMS treatments. This number is even higher when combined with psychotherapy and medication.

Has TMS been tested?TMS of Philadelphia uses Brainsway, which has been tested in over 60 clinical studies. Brainsway’s TMS device has also been FDA approved for treatment resistant depression.

Are there side effects?There may be some mild discomfort during treatment, typically described as a tingling sensation. You may also experience a mild headache, which is resolved with over the counter medication. There is a low risk for seizure, but only the amount seen in the use of some antidepressants.

How long does treatment take?A TMS session only lasts for about 20 minutes.
